40 million differences between chimpanzees and us?

Hi. Researchers at MIT and the University of Washington have compared the human and chimpanzee genome sequences in their entirely. The genomes of chimps are 96% identical to ours; however, that corresonds to 40 million base changes or deletions. In what may be good news, the data also suggests that the Y chromosome will not go extinct anytime soon. Click on the title of this post for more information (free subscription required).
